Long Coat VS Smooth Coat Dachshund-Which is right for me?
Smooth coat Dachshunds are independent, courageous and clever, they make loving family pets with their own charm and are the playful clown. Although they are intelligent they can be stubborn. You must establish yourself as the boss early on and they will learn through wanting to please you. They enjoy the entire family but usually attach themselves to one person in the family. They are affectionate and even demand attention. They are sleek, short haired, classic sausage hound look. They are free- thinking with an attitude. Easy to groom require oLnly an occasional bath and brushing.
Long coat Dachshunds are elegant looking and the most popular around here. They have 1-3 inch hair on their body with long, wavy hair on their ears, legs , tail and chest the long coat Dachunds are very regal looking. They have a more laid back demeanor and are loving tolerant dogs. They are happy to just be with you and do not have an agenda like the smooth coat doxies. They are not intrusive into your space but gentle and speak with their eyes more than their bark. They are up for whatever you are as they just want to be with you. IF that is taking a walk on the beach or laying in front of the TV they just want to be with you. Long coat doxies do not shed more than the smooth coats. Their hair gets to one length and does not continually grow so do not require special grooming. They do need to be brushed weekly especially their ears. They are great with children as they are gentle and tolerant. They look forward to going to bed with the kids. The smooth coats deem this as a fate worse than death itself as they might miss something going on in the rest of the house shut away in that bedroom!
